COMMUNICATION
AND VERBAL LANGUAGE

The one where we employ the word to communicate each other (speaking or writing). It is the basis of communication, as well as the easiest and most world-spread used. In this group we also include additional information on different languages, curiosities, play on words and so on.

Some examples

Dot I. "Dime como falas". Each person, depending on the moment and who is he/she speaking to, employs different registers when having a conversation. Moreover, there are a lot of professions with specific vocabularies well-known only by specialists in those areas. In this dot, we can hear a twenty seconds conversation using technical terms of some professions. At the same time, we can see in a screen objets and images representing different jobs. The visitor, pressing a button must match the audio with the profession.

Dot J. "Labirinto gramatical". The gramatical labyrinth was always something attractive to human being. In this case the solution to exit is grammar. It is a corridor full of doors with questions about grammar.  The visitor must choose the correct answer so that the door opens and enables him/her to go through the next door and final exit.

Dot O." A nosa fonoteca". It is a recording system and voice call. In this interactive unit the visitor can record his voice and also listen to other recorded messages.

Dot B." Antigas mensaxes". There are different types of writings which appeared through History: cave painting, wedge-shaped writing, Chinese writing, Greek writing, Latin writing, etc.) Some of them are shown on the panels and stands of the dot. They show the cronology, geographic location and possible interpretations of the messages registered.

Dot H. "Perigo de extinción". There exist many languages and dialects which, in spite of being part of a global world, are almost extinguished. The dot represents the scenography of a cemetery with buried or half buried languages or. You can hear recordings of literary texts in different and almost extinguished languages. You have to associate each one to the region of Europe where they are spoken.

Dot E. "Mensaxes baixo segredo". The coded messages are not only exclusively of spying films, but, very often, they have been used by government and army to conceal  their plans to possible enemies. Here in this dot we propose a deductive game: the visitor must sort out coded messages while visiting the museum. Solutions inm Dot X. Criptoanalistas.

Dot Z. "Xogando coas letras". There are plenty of ways of playing with words and letters. In this dot there are several games based on word knowledge: anagrams, games with the five vowels, others just with one vowel… There is also a table with four chairs to play other commercial games.

COMMUNICATION
AND NON-VERBAL LANGUAGE

Words are not always essential to understand each other. Many times a gesture, a sign or an image are enough to transmit all we want to express.

Some examples:

Dot C. "O que non chora... non mama, says the popular proverb. This is true as crying is the first way we employ to communicate each other. A series of photographies show different phases of growth and children speak learning with a system which allows listening to sounds generated in each stage. It also includes a chronological graphic of language learning.

Dot D. "Falando coa cara". Our face can express a lot of ideas and thoughts. This module has 10 images of a mime face showing different feelings. In the middle of them, there is a mirror where visitor can imitate the mime gestures or create its own gestures. Behind the mirror, a camera records these gestures and show them in a screen located in other side of the dot.
A linguaxe do corpo. But we do not only “speak” with the face but with all body. In fact, in a normal conversation much of the information we want to transmit is by signal communication. The visitor can see photographs of people making different gestures which represent specific actions or feelings easily identifiable..

Dot P. "Arquivo Pacheco". It is said that ‘an image is worth than one thousand words’. Visual communication is very important in our daily life. This dot is  dedicated to Jaime Pacheco, a Vigo photographer. The dot shows us how a photographic camera works.  We can also go in a giant dark camera.

Dot T. "Linguaxe musical". Music is a different way of expressing with an own written code and language. It may be quite difficult for someone inexperienced in decoding that code, but there is no doubt that we all are sensitive to messages (emotions, frames of mind) music can transmit.
